It is with profound sadness that we extend our condolences on the tragic demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, along with other officials, in a devastating helicopter crash. This loss is not only a blow to Iran but also to the entire region, affecting ongoing collaborations. The recent visit by President Raisi to Pakistan in April marked a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties, with both nations agreeing to elevate their trade volume to $10 billion. This ambitious target underscored a deepening partnership aimed at mutual economic prosperity. In the wake of this tragedy, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a day of national mourning, with the flag flying at half-mast to honour the memory of these leaders and to reaffirm the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Iran.
In April, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s participation in the special meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Riyadh underscores Pakistan’s proactive approach to global collaboration. Addressing the closing session, the Prime Minister emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to global growth, energy sustainability, and economic cooperation. Meetings with key international figures on the sidelines of the WEF provided opportunities to advance Pakistan’s interests, reflecting our strategic engagement in global economic dialogues.
In a moment of national pride, the Pakistan hockey team has made a triumphant return to the finals of the Azlan Shah Hockey Cup after a 13-year hiatus. This remarkable achievement is a proof of the team’s dedication, skill, and the support of their coaches and fans. We congratulate the nation and the team on this victory, which rekindles hope and enthusiasm for the sport in Pakistan. This success story inspires greater investment and interest in hockey, ensuring that Pakistan can reclaim its historic prowess on the international stage.
Lastly, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to PML-N leadership for recognising my contributions to the PML-N Research Wing and offering to nominate me for reserved seats for women in both the National and Punjab assemblies. Although I could not accept this offer for personal reasons, it was a pleasant reminder that our party values and acknowledges the hard work of dedicated workers.
